I disagree on that, just because they’re old doesn’t mean they’re necessarily ignorant of tech regulations.
-
Age is plainly inversely correlated with understanding of modern technology. Now Trump likes to tweet a lot, sure, but that's a far cry from understanding the nuts and bolts of internet tech (and thus how legislation would affect it).
-
I’m not denying the correlation, but it’s pure ageism to assume that age alone would prevent a president from being informed on issues regarding technology or software engineering.
-
I didn't say it's the only factor but it's obviously a factor. If acknowledging that makes me ageist, so be it. I also think age might affect one's ability to run marathons; I guess I'm just a raging bigot like that.
-
No need to get defensive. If you can prove that just being old impairs one’s ability to become knowledgeable about certain fields of study, then you’re not an ageist. If this is indeed the case, please tell me why.
-
Because the ability to learn/create new associations deteriorates with age?
-
Perhaps, but that doesn’t flat-out mean that an old person is completely incapable of acquiring new forms of knowledge. At worst, that just sounds like they’ll have some additional difficulty that a younger person may not have.
-
No it means that most older people will have a poorer grasp of new technology most of the time. Obviously exceptions exist. As do means, modes, medians and other wonderful statistical phenomena.
