The whole "politics in comics" argument is a red herring on multiple fronts. It's propped up to extremes that has the effect of killing discussions into pointlessness. "Politics" (or political topics) have always been "in" comics. But that's not what people complain about. /1pic.twitter.com/uHIibm6IDd

The people complaining about "politics in comics" aren't talking about panels drawn in comics, they are talking about their feelings that the creators are prioritizing ideology over telling a story. That's a topic that people can debate, but that requires thinking and nuance. /2pic.twitter.com/t86pRFjED8

Unfortunately the whole topic has boiled down into idiots making blatantly false points in a juvenile attempt to "one up the other side". Rather than have an open debate on if ideology is trumping (no pun intended) storytelling, they go for points nobody was arguing. /3pic.twitter.com/0tm4MxAn1P

The topic of how storytelling has changed is a very interesting discussion and debate. The topic of "did comics at one point show a president therefore comics have always been political losers" is, to me, just dummy trolling. Stop inventing straw men rather than actually talk. /4pic.twitter.com/ig99xP5y2x

The next time someone snarks that "politics have always been in comics" as if to prove some amazing point that nobody was making in the first place... just give them one of these. (Hope everyone had a great weekend!) /endpic.twitter.com/gc4aItCBjm

My take is that "comics/culture have always been political" is a deliberate misconstrual by political zealots and totalitarians. It's the first step in an inevitable process that leads to them claiming ownership of whatever it is they are trying to define as political.pic.twitter.com/HlTguFpPZu

The next step, once they've got you to accept the premise that everything is political, is to insist that THEIR brand of politics is correct and everything else is degenerate/evil and therefore unworthy of the medium. The end result is always a political monopoly of art.
