Rules and regulations can turn out to be illusory protections. Things made of words are grist for the mill of human creativity powered by motivation. It can be riskier to be in a jungle when you don't know that it's a jungle.

Players in the value chain look to maximize their share of the value, constrained by the power they possess relative to other players in the chain.

Automation of machines and people ensures that they keep doing what they're programmed to do, come hell or high water. Literally, in Titanic events.

Have to move the head to see the next frame, and the next, and the next; need to realize that it's a movie that plays forward, not a single frame. If the head moves, tails might be seen in subsequent frames. The croc's tail can be pretty nasty.

Space and time are enabled to be shrunk to a laser-like focal point by a foundational architecture devoted to an unquenchable and feverish desire to do this. No hedging. It's a hurtling toward something as we watch almost helplessly.

A Mess is tantalizing. It teases and taunts and incites me to catch it as it stubbornly eludes my full grasp. If I'm after a sense of success and certainty in my private universe though, then I can cast it as a "problem" and "solve" it.

The first spec may be good, better than anything spec'd after the floodgates open, and better than what the confidence suggests. That's the seed to plant.

Poet's Spaces A seed is sown - it'll grow and grow, Into thing it'll be, only what it can be, The poet, too, teases spaces that flow, 'Tween things he sees, past eyes that see, Though spaces be seeds, they be more than I know, They can set me free, to be freer than a me.

The Soul Miner I dug a hole in some place forgot, And hid my gold, the ingots I got, As battles were fought, and soul was sold, Was it all for nought, these dies I rolled? But wait! Is there not that place that's old? Where if I sought my soul, it still holds gold?

Gifted writers can make anything legible, and can optimize for things that exist only in the imagination.

Self-gorgonization There's one of me and many of it, This battle with exceeds my wit, So I shift my eyes to shut it out, And pan for gold in sea of doubt, Could I have found a way instead, To take a scythe to gorgon's head?

When I put a name on some thing, it blurs the thing. When I put a number on it, the thing dies.

Creativity begins with the creator's grasp of the existence and state of the creator.

Being exposed to just one half of your universe doesn't help you deal with the other half when it arrives.

It's not wise to read too much into a croc's reticence and passiveness. It's not possible to get into the croc's head. So can't compute probabilities based on past behavior, if that's not the full story.

Marginal costs of information can be high, and the returns can be diminishing. It's important to understand which bracket you're operating in. Pareto's hint is a crude but useful pointer.

There are many many wrongs and a few rare rights. The odds of finding the rights is low. Better odds in finding the wrongs in which you can go long on. You can also do well going short on the "rights" - most of them are wronger than the wrongs.

Math and probability/stats - You can admire the severe lines and geometry of the slab of butter and go hungry. Or you can spread it on the bread to make it easier to eat. But you need a knife to bring it to life. Be careful though! You can cut yourself with a knife if clumsy.

If the prioris have accumulated in a way that has created a parallel universe, the posterioris are mostly posterrorioris. Unless. Unless the stakes are really high. Then the pretender is shoved aside, and a mysterious creature appears from nowhere and takes charge.

The sun doesn't always rise in the east? It does, of course. But not everything is quite like that. Truths can be beliefs. But when these things are layers and layers beneath the "practical" level of thought, they lie, safe from questioning.
