I got called out for saying “they don’t have the competence” instead of “they don’t have the experience” and I was wrong and I feel bad
“Competence” confers less fluidity than “experience”, could be interpreted as more judgmental and fatalist about ability

But that's the listener's own brain damage. "Talent" is the same effect, but stronger; people think that talent is not something that can be developed over time should be vehemently chastised for thinking that way
