No space in a generated 8x8 board is ever a 9 or higher. Not an official rule of the game but a side effect of the generation algorithm

The blue space in the bottom right corner would have been a 10 if the space to its left were blue, so it must be red!

Another insight leading to weird plays: If an empty space lacks line of sight to any numbered blues, it and its empty neighbors must be red
