C - fast and efficient and for when you don't have enough memory to remember things like why you don't want to use C.
@gwern does Haskell or C require more (cognitive) working memory to be used effectively?

@BagelDaughter dunno relevant data; could make arguments both ways. Haskell has more powerful abstractions, but C has global state & trivia -
@gwern hard to say which affords higher peak performance but i suspect c performance degrades more 'gracefully' with working memory
