A good explanation must end with people being unable to recognize whether the speaker is wicked smart or absolutely mad imo
I think for the majority of explanations, any impressions created about the speaker in the structure of the explanation can only be bloat. It's inefficient for me to consider e.g. Newton (or for that matter, my calculus textbook's author) every time I consider derivatives

yes it is discouraging when people assign too many resources to their evaluation of the argument-maker and completely miss the point of the argument
