Theres a contemporary condition where someone likes a piece of popular media because they notice its creator managed to sneak a deeper thought process into it than they necessarily had to, but it’s hard to convince other people any one popular thing is different from all the rest
I think related is that certain popular media are designed to trigger this “wow, more deep than I expected” appraisal while still maintaining mass appeal. Happens a lot in popular children’s movies. Post-hoc approval of how it positively manipulates the “unsophisticated audience”
