It's going to be about 43F here in the Minneapolis-Saint Paul metro area today. Looks like rain. I remember just 23 years ago having to endure a 2 week stretch of lower than -20F in January.

If I read this correctly, the jet stream is looping north of the US. That's what is holding cold air over Canada and not letting it spill down into the US. So not only do we have warmer temperatures now, but also less precip. That creates additional problems this spring/summer.
