yeah, that's how my Norwegian friends explained it to me – in Norway, you typically use the 24-hour clock in writing / text (21:00), but in spoken language, you'll just use the 12 hour clock ("nine PM"). the military is the exception!

Same here, but we actually just use both 12 and 24 for written times. Maybe different strokes for different folks, but I actually don't think I can put a finger on what's used more often. It's crazy to think if I read 20:00, it's processed as 8 o'clock mentally
