i'm sure one of you knows the answer to this: did Nintendo ever sell JUST the Wii MotionPlus by itself, with its own packaging? or was it only in bundles?

I believe they sold the motionplus with the wiimotes and sleeve, unsure if it went smaller

Definitely sold by itself, I remember seeing it. It was just a bad decision to buy it, since it was always cheaper bundled with eg Wii Play Motion. (I had two copies of that game at one point as a result!)

Just reminded me of a dream I had last night: I was playing some game where you're on rails ala amplitude, controlling with a Wii-mote and I specifically remember trying to look at the Wii mote i was using to see if it was motion plus or not to explain why I was doing so poorly
