it's really tempting to think of Nintendo as a monolithic entity that changed "its" mind – in reality, I think the younger side of Nintendo has been internally pushing back against this for years and finally won

That’s a good point. Unfortunately there are gaming content creators that will either not receive this messaging or just wont care that Nintendo’s restrictive content policy has been walked back. Free promotion for Nintendo Online & Smash isn’t coming back in those cases.

totally! it's almost hard to quantify just how damaging these policies had been for them, especially in the Wii U era when they needed creators most. even i've spent 5 years training my brain to do Nintendo videos a very specific way – it's even gonna take me time to unlearn that
