Or you could just let people enjoy things if they want to and if it doesn't negatively affect you then why should you care? I'm interested in this and I know others are as well. I'd fucking love to play with with my friends who don't live near me.

Sorry for snapping. Where I'm coming from is that Mario Bros. is an important staple in video game history, both in general and specifically for Nintendo. If this takes minimal effort for them to do and for people to enjoy, then why not? It's not weird by any regard.
no worries, i feel ya. i think the disconnect for me is them putting it behind a subscription paywall - it seems to me like Nintendo reallllly overestimates the value of NES games sometimes

I think the whole thing is bullshit because Nintendo can do better than this. For me this represents a culmination of Nintendo's understanding of online gaming and how it approaches archival as a concept, neither look good.
