His tweet is an exaggeration but I can relate. I used Halloween as a day to explore my gender through cosplay sans social consequences. Currently growing out hair but not transitioning -> https://www.instagram.com/bhsignal/ - On insta because I'm still insecure but I think the point stands.

That said, I also learned to get over myself in time and don't consider myself a victim of anything but my own anxieties. I'll figure things out eventually but you can be damn sure I'll go all out every Halloween for the rest of my life.
