I had to buy a Japanese 3DS so I could add funds to buy games on the Japanese Switch eShop. This is actually the *easiest* way. (also to play jp3ds games ofc)

That seems like a really dumb process just to go deactivate a 3ds just to get another one of these things working. It kind of reminds me of the iTunes account policy from back in the day where they can only allow you up to five computers so if you keep switching your machine.....
