The new kilogram definition represents the democratization of mass. No longer will mass be determined by a artifact kept under lock and key. Weight will be decided by the constant forces of the universe. And that's a victory 129 years in the making.https://www.vox.com/science-and-health/2018/11/14/18072368/kilogram-kibble-redefine-weight-science …

That's not what "democratic" means. This is just a more precise definition of a kilogram. It's the same as redefining meters by the speed of light or seconds by the radioactive decay of a cesium atom. It's impressive, it's valuable, it's important, but not democracy.

democratic in the sense that realizing the kilogram will not rest with a single authority. With the right tech, one day, many more people will be able to realize the kilogram

or is there a more precise word for what I'm trying to get at?

Democratic means decided by the people. But the kilogram mass is not democratically decided: It is declared by fiat by reference to a universal constant, which makes it universally measurable. I think you just mean international or just standardized.

democratic can also mean "relating to, appealing to, or available to the broad masses of the people" ... that's the sense I'm getting at.
