I think the bottom line is this: When you upload your own DNA data, know you’re potentially giving the world a clue to find a family member.

There are some scary situations where this might matter. Imagine if a government started to collect blood or spit samples from protestors who got beat up and fled a protest.

But, then, again: think of all the other ways our privacy is compromised. AHEM, Facebook. I'd imagine most of the time it's easier to find people via online and public records, than some roundabout family tree DNA search.
