I get anxious about a need to show my work in a story. Not just telling people what I know, but why I know it. Earning trust. Which means deferring sources, walking through study methods. And so much of (science writing at least) is highlighting ambiguity.

which is to say, sometimes, "show not tell" is a way of being transparent with reader. But, on the other hand, my god these stories can get lengthy.
