Did you happen to know about this as well?https://www.psychologytoday.com/us/blog/body-meet-mind/201210/wait-what …
that link appears to be broken. Where does it lead?
Let me try again: https://www.google.fr/amp/s/www.psychologytoday.com/us/blog/body-meet-mind/201210/wait-what%3famp …. There were strong indications that there was a pre-test too. We tried to dig more, but Job couldn’t find anything more than this. You probably have more experience finding it out.
ahh, I see it now. Will check this out.
Your article seems mean-spirited. We all know present day IRB wasn’t available those days to prevent flaws & monitor details so some limitations from Zimbardo’s study are obvious —but why pick on him like that now? His main conclusion remains true!
He has misrepresented the study for decades and viciously challenges critics, calling them frauds. Why should he be treated with kid gloves? Because you agree with his conclusion? That’s not how science works.
Not a very compelling defense of the study at all. I think we should only discuss this “experiment” from an ethical example from now on and ignore any prior conclusions regarding “evidence”
Thanks for this. I’m always impressed when interviewers ask hard questions. Zimbardo’s framing of the replication crisis/his critics as ‘bloggers’ is very telling, as is how harshly he speaks about critics.
Hey some balance on this. However imperfect, Zimbardo demonstrated that, with minimal social pressure, some people will drop their adherence to basic norms, and behave like concentration camp guards. Alongside the Milgram experiment, this remains a dreadful warning for us all.
I have a book by Dr. Zimbardo titled #TheTimeParadox, and what a great book it is!
