Respectfully, that’s not true. People following Iran and the Middle East have been aware of him for years. I would argue the vast majority of Americans know nothing about what’s going on in iraq writ large. Most are probably shocked we have soldiers there.

The point holds, the reason Americans had no clue who he was is simply the American Empire could not inform its masses how royally it messed up in Iraq which allowed for Iran increased regional power. It’s not because only the super clever people knew, “They” F&&ed Up!
