Best save % in Europe's top five leagues. More PL clean sheets than goals conceded. Same number of PL assists as Sterling, Özil and Lucas Moura. Feels like the low key manner of Alisson's brilliance means he's taken for granted now.

Increasing trend: people talking about policy and rules for 'data'. 'You own your data', 'data should be portable', 'there should be a EU market/rules/rules for data'. The problem with this: there is no such fucking thing as 'data' 1/

NEW Brexit slide: This is how the EU wants to structure the EU-UK post-Brexit deal: two bases (economic, security), one governance arrangement, one level-playing field. We could call it the house at the end of the Barnier staircase.

"Secretaries of state used to average > 2.5 years but now it is < 2 years." Ministers don't have time to deliver policy. The smart ones know this and don't even try. This, as much as anything, is what leads to government by announcement and sound bite.

My latest: The larger the study, the greater the chance of nonsense. Large studies reduce random error, but not systematic error. The bottom line: Always check whether the data can answer the question. If not, don't analyze.

Finally read "What is this thing called science?" by Chalmers (overview of the book: - pdf is a search away). If you want to learn about philosophy of science, you can't go wrong starting here. Very clear, and a great choice of topics.

“To expect a researcher... to make any worthwhile judgement [on future impact] - and make it before the work has even been done - is surely absurd.” Sir Martin Reese was compelling in arguing against predicting impact in grant applications
