I'm regularly accused of spreading FUD when talking about LN always-on requirement. At least you have tested it yourself...
-
It's not that I don't like LN. I'm aware of what it can do. But the very low adoption and the problem of crashes / liquidity might make us re-set mid-term expectations ...
-
P.S.: There is only one payment option used even less than LN on my site ... XMR :) ... zero payments ...
-
Just fixed that! But not fair to compare all the other payment options which have been there for weeks now to recently added
#Monero and also for a Bitcoin Book
-
Thank! I know, not fair, maybe when compared to ln. Did it work? I saw your order, trying to check manually, if I got a payment ...
-
Ah, thank you for the first XMR-payment! My wallet was not refreshed, so it didn't see the payment.

Traditional [centralised] banks have the liquidity and many open channels for fewer node hops and middlemen can do the online thing to monitor the channel (and make $$$).
-
Which banks?
-
Theoretically... not in actuality. But lightning, if broadly adopted, would mirror the traditional banking system as the nodes with the most liquidity would have the most channels open, facilitate fewer hops, and take the most money for providing a service.
-
Yes, this was one of my conclusions after trying to accept payments with LN. Even with your own node you need help of someone else, like banks. I guess some LN protagonists hope to become the new banks ...
-
Yup. And if they don’t wanna stay online to monitor the channels, they can also outsource channel monitoring to yet another middleman, who takes a cut of the $$$.
-
honestly, I think channel monitoring is the smallest problem. I would not care much about it. Bigger problem is that you need to be online to get paid ...
-
But in the end, I think users will get a one-shop-solution for channel watching, forwarding payments, giving liquidity. If it ever becomes relevant enough ...

Maybe we can help you recover. What client are you running? And what are the symptoms?
-
Ind v 0.4.2, my node is MOBY_Blitz, installed it using the instructions on github-lnd. Trying to investigate, I have a few closing transactions I didn't expect, so maybe the funds already settled ...
-
More annoying than possibly losing 22€ is that I need to beg for liquidity again to use the node for accepting payments ...
-
or you open a channel and spend? If you're active in the economy you won't have much issues....

Was a matter of time... :(
-
To be fair, I was too lazy to maintain it. Maybe upgrades of Core and LND would have helped to prevent it, maybe I should have taken regular backups. But as I only had 1 LN payment in one month, it wasn't worth the time ...
-
Yeah, it's very low use and I can understand why. It sounds difficult
-
Yes, I like the general idea of putting transactions offchain, and LN works, technically, but it has a lot of problems preventing it to be adopted ...
-
are you saying that beta software needs improvement? It's to be expected. Isn't it?
