Soon I had to let go as I had other patients that needed my help, what little I could offer. This patient ended up dying alone, there are no visitors allowed in the hospital. /2

Last night I had to tell an elderly patient that they were going to die from COVID-19, and fast. There was nothing more we could do for them. They reached out and I held their hand for a while, their only source of comfort in the world /1

Imagine the feeling walking away from this person knowing death was coming for them and you were their last human contact, their last sense of hope and connection to this world and it just walked away never to come back. This will stick with me for a while. /3
