Cherry-plum coming into flower and leaf right on time in our local park 🌸🌿🍒

Winter background of grey sky and leafless shrubs. In the foreground the shrub is unfurling tiny green leaves and white flowers are open. Photo is wrong way up but refuses to be corrected 🤷🏻‍♂️

My main photo preoccupations this week have been tiny rosettes (I'm forever beguiled by Rue-leaved Saxifrage) & cultivated Hellebores, one of the latter H. argutifolius (I think) demonstrates a cymose inflorescence rather nicel.

I just love the shape of these old oak in the . Somebody once described them as, ‘all knees and elbows’. What a great description! We mustn’t forget how important the deadwood is for wildlife too!

Help "insects, birds & plants local to you" by halving the amount of mowing, and aiming for "bohemian untidiness" in gardens, says the President of the British Ecological Society. This should evidently also apply to local authorities...

Sketchbook painting of Pasqueflower (Pulsatilla vulgaris) from a photo I took at Barnack Hills and Holes a couple of years ago. Beautiful flower, but all those stamens were a bit tricky!

"Nature interactions" are known to reduce stress levels in cities. While waiting at a red light, I took some time to observe this Shepherd's purse plant (Capsella bursa-pastoris) with its heart-shaped pods. We should all learn to appreciate our nearby nature!

Something you can do help & other pollinating insects - without actually 'doing' anything. Go on.... steel yourself and allow the dandelions in your lawn to flower. It'll save you time, and you might just grow to love them too!
