A sufficiently advanced phishing attack could also convince someone to install a native app, which can do the same thing. So ... what does "unphishable" mean?

I'm concerned there may be CCID smart card readers (esp dual interface ones) whose out-of-box OS support suffices but leaves at least one interface open to be claimed: ex: some NFC + contact interface readers on macOS only have contact interface bound by default to OS built-in.

They originally intended to require vendors to explicitly allow WebUSB (and for a defined set of origin). But to avoid requiring firmware changes, opted for the current model.
