Regardless of whether I'm running 5K or 10K, I always suffer for only the last 4.5K.
Every run? I also speed up then, but only enough to make up for however far behind the target time I am. I try to not need to do so at all.

Just about. I do try to stay very steady and right outside of the red zone for most of the run. But it's too much fun to run fast(er).
