Hmm, but then how do some YouTubers make thousands per month that way?
Aren't they making that money from advertising to people who aren't software developers and so are less likely to block ads?

Some YouTubers make $2500 a month off just Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/ThatMumboJumbo https://www.patreon.com/xisuma

AFAICT, that person is running a SaaS business, hosting third-party software (Minecraft) for $10/month, at basically zero cost.
-
Well, that's one of the "rewards". I'm sure they'd get a lot of support without that particular reward.
-
But it's certainly hard for open-source projects to offer low-cost, high-value incentives when they give the main product away.
-
(Unless, of course, they turn it into a company with a product.)
-
I don't have time to go digging, but what are typical Patreon "rewards" for software projects?
-
Free subscriptions/software, t-shirts, thank you/recognition page. meet up with the developers for a beer and etc.
-
Yep, basically everything but actually making the software better on a better schedule.
