@mikemaccana mh. I get pushing the value of EV, but DV-bashing misses the point, which you know well. Unimpressed. https://certsimple.com/blog/domain-validated-ssl-google-com-mg …

@FiloSottile most end users still trust DV security UI. Surprised anyone would be against making people aware of what DV actually means.

@mikemaccana right. What we want is DV=normal, http=red. And we get there by getting everyone on DV, not by FUD

@FiloSottile DV was made by CAs to reduce costs. Encryption has far less value if you don't know who's on the other side. You know this.

@mikemaccana @FiloSottile Many people say EV was made by CAs to *increase* costs. =) Certainly, that's their stronger incentive.

@konklone certainly EV is better value proposition for end user than OV. Do you not think EV has value over DV?

@vtlynch I do not, not as it works today anyway. For EV to provide security benefit, users need to notice absence of EV and take action.

@vtlynch I'd support mandating CT over EV because CT is based on cryptographic proof. EV is basically backroom, unauditable.

@konklone agree there too. EV isn't a "solution" to security, it's just an additional measure that should be optional.

@vtlynch @konklone One could build a useful reputation service (on top of CT) that people expect EV should. Vetter separate from issuer.

@BRIAN_____ @vtlynch @konklone what about browsers first become liable and audited before they try to decide about certificates ?

@sam280 yet all the screwups I see are by audited certificate authorities and not by browsers
