WebAssembly Prediction: 1. Somebody writes a decently-perfoming wasm-based x86_64 emulator. 2. Browsers compete furiously over who can run x86_64 code through this emulator the fastest. 3. Browsers end up just executing the x86_64 code directly. 4. Repeat for other architectures.

Or, another possibility is that wasm could just become the target binary format that platforms support in addition to their native one
