Also note. The third one is positive. The line may be the faint but it’s there. It means he has high enough viral load, signaling becoming infectious. Next morning is even higher—darker line . Use rapid tests *right before* meeting. That’s their purpose.https://twitter.com/BQuilty/status/1471392764004913152 …

To the mention-folk claiming this is anxiety. Do you stop at red lights? Do you slow down around corners? YES COST IS A BARRIER. But if I can take sixty seconds to avoid infecting especially someone vulnerable, why wouldn't I? It's the opposite of anxiety. It's calm and carry-on.

I think there's an invisible demographic of people, especially among those whose work conditions are more privileged, who have been taking reasonable precautions but really are just carrying on with life, just with extra steps especially to avoid transmission to more vulnerable.

Yes, I personally write a lot about COVID but it's because this should not be the bastion of the privileged, or those with money, or information—to be able to take reasonable precautions and carry on with life and adjust if something changes. This isn't anxiety, it's privilege.

Me: "Sure, I slow down around corners, even more so if children are playing around! I get to my destination 60 seconds later than otherwise." You, a realist: "You must be a ball of anxiety, life is full of risks just accept and move on!"

Perfect. It’s very similar to staying home when you’re sick if you’re able to do so. This disease spreads most *right before* you develop symptoms and just then, so this test is equivalent of a cough and a fever warning you that you’re likely to infect others. Calm and carry on.https://twitter.com/ocbarron/status/1471518358617178120 …

If your car had either a .001% chance or a 20% chance of hitting another car on any given day, and you had a dashboard indicator to tell you which it was when you turned it on, you bet your ass I would want you staying home when it flashes 20%.

And finally, the original person I quoted lives in a country where the cost to him is... zero. I simply wanted to highlight the meaning of the faint line. No, I wouldn't test four times a day unless I suspected exposure or was just trying it out, but the point is obvious.

Yep, had several exposures including two household ones so started testing daily as is policy in the UK. Late Tuesday I felt a sore throat coming on so I increased frequency to capture the upswing through Wednesday. This is my research area so I thought it would be interesting!

I don't recommend testing that frequently normally. Main point was meant to be that a test result from yesterday or early in the day may expire in a few hours, so make sure you do one as close as possible to when you're gonna see people.

Any chance you could test on the way “down”. Very curious to see how quickly the body sheds omicron. I know from personal experience delta breakthrough was roughly 7 days until negative in this house. Curious if Omicron is quicker.

Similar here, colleague tested positive so started testing daily. -ve in morning, symptoms in afternoon so tested again +ve. Fished out morning test and a faint line had appeared - maybe the 30 mins cook time not enough?

.@BQuilty could you clarify timing a bit more? You said you started having a sore throat late Tuesday. Is the first test you show here ("yesterday morning") from Tuesday morning or from Wednesday morning? Thanks so much for sharing!

Sore throat…I wonder if that’s going to become one of the main symptoms of omicron.
