Worrying new preprint from @louisesmith142 et al. finds just 18% of persons with COVID symptoms adhere to self-isolation, and only 11% adhere to quarantine if contacted by test and trace: https://www.medrxiv.org/content/10.1101/2020.09.15.20191957v1.full.pdf …

Really reinforces the need for clear public health messaging, as well as for practical and financial support for isolating/quarantining persons.

Surely shows the pointlessness given the huge decrease in cases and fatalities from May-August?

So it is not that that there is less freedom in Italy but that Brits don’t appear to give a damn if they might pass the virus unto others. @WRicciardi

Correct. Hyper individualism is rife in the UK.

View it this way then, if that many aren’t isolating and actively spreading the virus, we would surely have expected worse spread than we have !!

View it this way then, if the majority of people had adhered to self isolating with symptoms and track and trace, we'd have a way lower infection rate now and less stringent restrictions

Assuming these figures include those who are meant to be in quarantine following arriving in the UK from countries with no airbridge? If that's the case how much more does @grantshapps need to know before he ditches this farcical rule and supports testing to save lives and jobs?
