#Ida is close to becoming the fifth Category 5 hurricane to ever make landfall in the continental U.S. Three days ago (26Aug 15Z), the 1st advisory was written for TD9. History has shown that this is what these super-rapid intensifiers do, and Ida's rate would even surpass these.https://twitter.com/BMcNoldy/status/1431271764370227207 …

As we watch #Ida with anxiety this weekend, remember that *ALL FOUR* Category 5 hurricane landfalls on the continental U.S. were just tropical storms three days prior. Do not underestimate what nature is capable of. pic.twitter.com/4wERDjtRQR

It's just insane! And thanks for all the extremely helpful stats for #Ida. It really does put things into perspective.

Generally Cat. 5's have pressure low 920mb or lower so may stay Cat 4? Not much time left before land interaction.

Hurricanes weren't given regular names until 1953. Before that, the most notorious were referred to by things like "The Great Miami Hurricane", or "The Labor Day Hurricane", etc.

My thoughts from Friday night, based upon solar -space weather rule of thumb, had Ida as a Cat 5. 155-165 mph
