Welcome to the BLS Twitter. For photographs of lichens, please be aware that there will be times when even half an identification will not be possible. Some need to be identified from spores/chemical tests and many lichens look remarkably identical! Tweets by Amanda & Simon Davey

The number of lichens present must be more than six or seven. Some we know and some require further attention. A small patch of Lecanora albescens, plus several black dot lichens and the yellow dots devoid of thallus

Productive fenceposts aren't always flamboyant. This was at the entrance to the churchyard at Tickhill, Doncaster. Not only does it have fascinating lichens on it, but it's great for the "Excuse me, I can't help wondering, what are you looking at" questions!

Lichens live for 366 days in leap years and they have something to offer for each of those days. Plus there is never a time in the study of lichens that anyone can know everything there is to know, as new knowledge and understanding comes through every day. And new questions
