    Update on the Sand Canyon parking lot upgrades in Canyons of the Ancients National Monument: Bedrock was leveled to create a larger parking area. The parking lot is open but will be closed for a few days in March to apply a final surface treatment. More info (970) 882-5600.

    Who doesn't love free? The BLM is waiving recreation-related fees for visitors to BLM-managed public lands during five 2020 fee-free days: Jan. 20, Feb.17, June 13, Sept. 26, and Nov. 11! Get out there and enjoy your public lands! More details:

    Staff from the BLM Grand Junction field office picked up about 8,000 pounds (4 tons) of roof shingles and other trash illegally dumped on 27 1/4 Road. This is equivalent to the weight of a hippopotamus!! Please report illegal dumping to your local BLM office.

    The BLM is seeking public comment on American Gypsum's proposal to expand their Eagle-Gypsum Mine from 830 acres to 929 acres near the Town of Gypsum. The mine and associated wallboard plant produce about 600 million square feet of dry wall annually.

    The BLM is seeking public scoping comments on a proposed action to transfer ~ 17,700 acres of federal surface and minerals and ~ 6,000 acres of federal mineral estate to the state of Colorado for lands it did not receive under its Statehood Act of 1876.
