never forget that the entire reason the korean peninsula is split in two is b/c the US military forcefully dissolved the provisional korean gov't after WW2 which the Koreans themselves had formed b/c it was "full of communists"

the US then violently suppressed all dissent in the south (they couldn't exactly do so in the north b/c the USSR's aid + the popularity of socialism), and forced the south to adopt a gov't of the US's design. the ROK is occupied US territory

also fun fact: khrushev refused to visit the DPRK b/c "he could not speak ill of the united states" since he had "exchanged kisses with eisenhower". gorbachev also refused to visit and instead to chose to beg for money in the US and ROKpic.twitter.com/ZH96CvDUAo
