De Blasio’s NYPD: Bail reform is responsible for upticks in certain crime in last month. Also De Blasio’s NYPD: Bail reform is not responsible for “driving down” homicides in same period. That’s the NYPD. Notice something wrong with this cause & effect data nonsense?

Sean struggled with drug use for 30 yrs. Thanks to bail reform, the judge released him after a recent arrest, allowing him to go to rehab. Rather than being incarcerated, he was able to get the treatment he needs. He looks like a completely different man now.

Don’t watch the . Instead watch Nilda’s story. Survivor of domestic & gang violence. Thought US would protect her. Instead border agents kidnapped her 2 y/o. Detained her for 2 months. Told her: “This is what happens when you come to my country.”

For David, bail reform meant being home to witness the birth of his daughter. Through all the ups & downs of his case, reform meant all the difference for him in getting to hold his new daughter the hospital and being there for his family for a moment they’ll never get back.

THREAD Since NY’s historic pretrial reforms were implemented on Jan 1st, 400+ clients we represent in the Bronx have been able to return to their families, jobs, education, and community while fighting their cases.

  12. Money bail means: "A person with power and influence, they get arrested and deserve to go home. But someone without means? Someone without power and influence? They don't deserve to go home. They deserve to languish in jail." New York passed bail reform to address this injustice

Last week, NYPD Commissioner Shea wrote an op-ed calling for a rollback of bail reform using inaccuracies and fearmongering. We are fighting back against racist notions of so-called “dangerousness.”

Standing with my colleague , , and advocates to say ! No one deserves to be kept in jail because they’re poor. Bail reform WORKS. What we should be focused on is mental health services for people - not criminalization.

Our organizers spoke to 30 people today at criminal courts in NYC. In addition to speaking with people who are now out & coming back to court, they spoke to 10 people who were there to support loved ones who were incarcerated pre-trial. Jail impacts the entire family.
