Symptoms appear 2-14 days after infection. Trump's symptoms began, at the latest, on Thursday (10/1). That means he was infected between 9/17 and 9/29. The debate was 9/29. Hard to believe he didn't know he was infected before the debate -- if he was being tested regularly.
This is why the WH refuses to divulge the date of his last negative test. It'll either show he was positive before the debate and knew, or he wasn't being tested regularly like they insisted he was.

He was likely positive for awhile and thought he’d be asymptomatic. And didn’t care.
