Was there every any talk of Sabine just finding the Darksaber somewhere similar to how Rey discovered Luke's saber in the Force Awakens?
No, and the need to differentiate the discovery from Rey’s may have played a part. Along with the desire to return to Dathomir, to explore Maul’s past (new to Rebels) and his twisted state of mind.

Did any of the Maul episodes stem from ideas tossed around in Clone Wars meetings? Guessing Seige of Manadore would’ve given Maul some closure but was there any discussion back then about where he’d go next?
