Additional thought: why is coronavirus scarier than flu, or other diseases that often disproportionately affect the poor, elderly, and otherwise disadvantaged?

This virus seems to hit slower, harder and longer than a regular flu and is leading to many cases of pneumonia. You can be an asymptomatic carrier and there's no vaccine. All new viri without a known history scare the uninformed and fear mongers capitalize on that.
