I wonder if this man ever imagined he would be advocating for convicted rapists to be locked in prison cells with women? Women that can not run. But yet here he is trying to minimize it.

Shortly after my speech on Tuesday, I left the chamber for about 15-20min to use the facilities and grab a drink, talking to colleague along the way. I noticed that voting was about to begin, so I returned to the chamber. When I returned, Kirsty Blackman of the SNP was speaking, and it is convention that you do not cross a speaker on the floor of the house. I stood briefly at the bar of the chamber and then sat on the side seats which are not party aligned for the final speaker while waiting for the vote. It is not uncommon at the end of a debate, right before a division, for people to sit at different seats while waiting to enter the chamber or the lobbies. I went straight to vote when the division bell rang. I had no concept that this was making any member feel awkward and would never do anything to deliberately intimidate anyone in or out of the chamber.

Six months ago the replies to this would be filled with gender affirming support and allyship. The noticeable difference on Twitter now is that 447 replies are exclusively hateful transphobic rhetoric. I’ve never turned off replies before but I had to do it on this one.
