Sorry, that should be in *1755*. We were distracted by the camel.

The manuscript passed through a few hands before arriving at Oxford in Richard Rawlinson’s collection in 1775. Earlier owners left some scribbles, a few coats of arms, and drawing of a camel:

The Chronicles are an Anglo-Norman translation and reworking of an earlier Latin work by Trevet; they were dedicated to Mary of Woodstock, daughter of Edward I, and give a history mostly of England from Creation to 1334:

New(ish) to Digital Bodleian: MS. Rawl. B. 178, a mid-14th century copy of Nicholas Trevet’s Chronicles, probably produced within a few decades of the work’s composition. Trevet was a Dominican friar and scholar who worked at Oxford:

We're getting lots of tweets like this, but it's OK to take the quiz multiple times. Many people have more than one favourite manuscript. Here at BDLSS the average is approximately 15.

We've also got you if it's been a difficult morning and you want to read about land ownership in early modern Oxford. (We know there are some of you out there.)
