I was told by very credible sources that drastically cutting taxes for corporations and the wealthy would magically shrink the deficit? What happened?

Magic isn't real. It's used to trick the gullible.

The same old crap since Reagan. Cut taxes, cut regulations, spend on the military. Blame dems for spending, cut programs and services, all because giving tax cuts to the wealthiest people on Earth is more important.pic.twitter.com/1qt0ETdJVM

And yet the “republican” faithful can’t see the pattern.

some could argue tax cuts could be deemed as an entitlement program
-
Oh, but those are entitlements for the wealthy, so they don’t count.

"Entitlement programs" should be in quotes. If McConnell is referring to Social Security & Medicare, both are popular and are earned benefit programs---Americans paid into them, and get money out. McConnell is using the gaping deficits created by his tax giveways to gut them.
-
McConnell couldn’t care less if the rest of us, other than the Congressional Republicans, their wealthy donors & their rich friends, lose our Medicare and Social Security & wind up out on the street.
