Trump deliberately withheld standard info about his budget until today, a week after it came out, making most detailed analysis impossible until now. Here is a new thread on Trump's budget, which I'll be updating throughout the day. His budget calls for cutting SNAP by 30%.pic.twitter.com/bV8OMSFdEZ

Remember that infrastructure plan Trump touted, where he said that he was investing $199 billion into infrastructure? He cuts transportation by $286 billion. And this doesn't even include other kinds of infrastructure like housing. This is why the admin withheld this info.pic.twitter.com/992rSOtSbd

Here's just the 10-year totals. As is so often the case, Trump offers with his left hand and then takes it and more away with his right. Do not trust him or his administration. Do not report at face value what he says about his budget. They always mislead and lie.pic.twitter.com/yixVGJjfek

Trump's budget calls for $3.5 billion in cuts to WIC, which provides food assistance to infants, toddlers, and pregnant moms. WIC serves over 6 million people and is incredibly effective. https://www.cbpp.org/research/food-assistance/policy-basics-special-supplemental-nutrition-program-for-women-infants-and …pic.twitter.com/9M2HBRlugX

          There's a lot to sift through. Here's my thread from earlier:https://twitter.com/BBKogan/status/1105128836155494402 …

Here's my Trump FY2020 budget thread, which I'll be updating throughout the day. To start us off, the Trump budget calls for $220 billion in cuts to SNAP. SNAP gives on avg just $1.40/meal. It lifts 8 million out of poverty. And Trump would eviscerate it. https://www.cbpp.org/research/policy-basics-the-supplemental-nutrition-assistance-program-snap …

Section 8 helps over 3 million households afford rent. It is already drastically underfunded - roughly only 1/4 of eligible people are on it. Trump would cut it by 13 percent, kicking struggling families out into the streets.pic.twitter.com/Lx2veYH1aR

Trump would cut NASA by 22 percent - over $30 billion. With this, the EPA cuts, the NSF cuts, the CDC cuts, the NOAA cuts, the USGS cuts, etc., his budget would destroy long-term investments.pic.twitter.com/7RkIEn3fCu

Our policy director @smithmachine spotted something that confirms the administration withheld this information. The table that we got today was dated 11 days ago. But when we put out a request a week ago, they refused to give it to us. How inappropriate.pic.twitter.com/36jLbF23Mc

Means-tested programs like SNAP *are supposed to* increase when times are bad and decrease when times are good. This happens naturally, as incomes and jobs fluctuate. But what the administration is proposing is deep and cruel cuts beyond SNAP's pre-recession levels.pic.twitter.com/ozVzIFbhBO

The average SNAP benefit is only $1.40 per person per meal. The costs are tiny, just one-third of one percent of the economy, yet the benefits are massive. SNAP recipients are more likely to graduate from high school and less likely to have heart disease.https://www.cbpp.org/research/food-assistance/chart-book-snap-helps-struggling-families-put-food-on-the-table …

This budget would take food away from the hungry, shelter away from the impoverished, health care away from the sick, assistance away from people with disabilities. How cruel can you be? You don't get to propose policies like this and still pretend to care about people.

Thank you all so much for sharing your WIC stories. WIC saves lives. It is so clearly effective - higher birth weights, achievement in school, etc. - that it has traditionally enjoyed large bipartisan support. The more folks understand it helps people, the better for everyone.

Trump's budget would destroy our federal education efforts. He calls for a 26% to elementary, secondary, & vocational education. He calls for a 64% cut higher education. He calls for a 44% cut to research & general education aids. In total, he'd cut education funding by $377 bn.pic.twitter.com/RLV6RSkumn

Since some folks are asking, here's the proof on WIC. Just compare policy to baseline. And, in fact, doing it this way is a conservative approach since this doesn't reflect the fact that WIC received higher funding in the minibus. If I'd accounted for that, it'd be a $5.8 bn cut.pic.twitter.com/1uvAflKNqr
