EU science chief resigns blaming EU politics +lack of public health coordination. True. EU nations are sovereign but shld have coordinated earlier on #coronavirus NB In US where Ferrari now returns the states aren’t united in public health measures either https://www.ft.com/content/f94725c8-e038-4841-a5f6-2e046ae78e95 …

They are a trade bloc & political experiment masquerading as a wannabe Federal Government and they have been found out in this crisis.

EU’s DNA founded on FOM: but the virus has killed this, surely the project is now doomed ?

Whilst cooperation should have happened the fact that there was the outbreak in Italy early on and had to be addressed by them on their own meant that all countries were going to react differently dependent on how exposed they thought they were.

I don't see this as such a bad thing, it just shows that in certain areas countries have sovereignty, and always have, despite us in the UK being told differently.

Thanks for the tweet, @BBCkatyaadler . Seems everyone has reverted to National type in time of crisis. It should be a matter of urgency for real leaders to step up and set out the vision for policies for public health that match the Schengen openness and harmonisation ideal.

I don't doubt that you're right, but I don't understand the point you're making with the NB. The US perhaps should be more coordinated, being one nation, but Ferrari will have known that and ought to have realised at the outset that the EU is a completely different beast.

Ahem — public health policies (which is different from medicines, which are traded goods, i.e. subject to EU regulations) were *never* a EU matter in the first place. It was always *intentionally* left to individual countries how to organize & pay for their public health systems.
