F-35B is the ONLY fixed-wing aircraft that can fly from our aircraft carrier. Crazy, eh? We built a multiple billion dollar carrier with no contingency if ever serious problems in F-35B program occurs. We should have fitted EMALs (cats and traps) when we had the chance.

The F-35 program has flown over 120 000 flight hours without a hull loss, which is pretty much a record..
-
Remember when the harrier was the only fixed wing aircraft that could operate off our carriers, and everyone's panties where in a twist? Oh wait no we don't because it was fine.
-
Yes, also the Invincible Class didn't cost £6billion, didn't claim to be the biggest, the most modern and advanced ship in the world.
You just made the point that I've always been saying: that is the HMS Queen Elizabeth is just an oversized Invincible Class carrier. -
1) Neither does the QE. It claims rightly to be the biggest and best warship the RN has ever had. But nobody is claiming in the world and you know it. The WE is a considerable upgrade in capability from the invincibles so saying "just an oversized invincible is a disservice."
-
It's so big and so better that it can only launch one type of fixed-wing aircraft and will only ever carry 12 jets at a time
If you think you need to spend £6billion to launch ONE type of fixed-wing aircraft, will only carry 12 - I have two words for you:
WASP and AMERICA -
No it will routinely carry 12 jets. Which is veey different from a "maximum" as you very well know, but choose to ignore. Wasp and America do not have nearly the capacity or the fixed wing sortie rate. Again you know this but choose to ignore it.
-
Yes, I KNOW ALL THIS! So quit arguing with me, because my only original point is that the QE should have been fitted with EMALs instead of skijump. Thus, having a fall back between F-35Cs, Super Hornets, Rafales. Can launch proper AEW aircrafts. You disagree? Tough. Move on

It takes years for a decent fighter to mature. Software, hardware upgrades. The F-35B is gonna take a while to go mainstream. It’s got awesome potential. Worked on the Typhoon - same deal.
-
Yeah, nearly 200 harriers have been lost over the years. US marines nicknamed it the 'widow maker'. F35 development has been smoother than most. Media don't really do relative though.

We can’t have
#FreeCollege,#Infrastructure, or#UniversalHealth.... But we can have a $1,000,000,000,000.00 aircraft project that can’t fly!pic.twitter.com/sb3nb2OGSK - 1 more reply

-
Yes but it has been flying for years like I said. Also this wasn’t a combat operation
-
U probably got me wrong, the f35b flew its first operation against the Taliban on thursday
-
It’s first combat operation with the US. Not it’s first combat operation
