I wonder how much we bother them being in their territory. We know so little about how #animals feel about us being in their environment. We as species lost so much of this awareness.

Sea lions are quite territorial. There's places in CA where jetties have been fenced off to keep the tourists safe because the sea lions have decided it's their territory.

No. A sea lion slapped a man in the face with an octopus.

These guys are invading their habitat. Of course they are going to retaliate. They are lucky this just happened. Take the hints, dudes. Leave them alone and observe from afar.

By this logic we should all be living in the grasslands of Africa, as we’ve invaded every other corner of this planet

Here’s the difference, we live on land so water-based animals have not adapted to humans like land-based animals have (for the most part). Those who are refs in water sports know you always give animals wide berth as your in their space. These kayakers invaded.

I’m sure that this story isn’t as serious as you’re making it out to be. Nobody is truly invading, in the most accurate sense of the word. If you want to use your energy to be angry at something worth getting angry at, then I’m sure you won’t have to search long.

If you are not a sea kayaker or scuba driver than you really have no sense of what you’re speaking of. You’re entitled to have a baseless opinion but it just makes you look like ignorant.

The only thing that can stop a bad seal with an octopus, is a good seal with an octopus.
