But... why? You've provided no context or explanation. Who cares if street vendors sell souvenirs? Do the Paris police really have nothing better to do?
-
Google it, it's an ongoing problem involving many kinds of fakes: 2013: https://www.reuters.com/article/us-france-eiffeltower/60-tons-of-eiffel-tower-trinkets-seized-in-paris-idUSBRE96O1A720130725 … 2011:https://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/europe/police-clash-with-souvenir-sellers-under-eiffel-tower-2342760.html …

The Independent article is helpful, thanks. I understand from it that licensed vendors are suffering because unlicensed vendors are taking business. But to characterize souvenirs as "fake" or "counterfeit" is ridiculous. Nobody, licensed or not, is selling the real Eiffel Tower.

The genuine items have a legitimate network. Where they're made, what they're made of, how they're transported, who owns the rights. Fake items have no quality control, could contain anything, including toxins. This is not a question of counterfeit goods. How can any common trinket sold in souvenir shops, be it an Eiffel Tower, a Tower of Pisa, or a Statue of Liberty, be regarded as “genuine” or “counterfeit”? There is one genuine Eiffel Tower and it is not for sale.
-
The sellers do not claim to be selling the actual full-scale Eiffel Tower. The items sold are souvenirs, to serve as a remembrance of the visit. Of these mementos, there are licensed and unlicensed. Only one may be legitimately sold.

>Of these mementos, there are licensed and unlicensed. Only one may be legitimately sold. Can you please link to your source for this info?
-
By the way, I like that you like links. I like links too, it allows me to learn more about a subject I'm interested in.

One of these guys, whilst i was in Paris by myself ( and i look quite young), tried to get me to follow him to a café saying ‘c’est pas méchant’ (it’s nothing mean/bad). And, honestly, that’s the main problem, they harass and scam tourists. It is an actual problem
