TONIGHT: The prime minister says he wants a deal with the EU, but only if the Irish ditch the backstop. As no-deal warnings continue, is it time for Ireland to change its position? It’s not Ireland’s border. It’s the British border. + read the GFA. I don’t want my children or anyone’s children to endure what my generation experienced.

I'd like to remind BBC that there is a sizable part of NI which are Irish nationalists and are license payers

With Brexit, the British are going to shit on Ireland yet again. There are many aspects of Brexit which are disgraceful but arguably the lack of consideration for Ireland has been one of the worst.

Really ? Why does newsnight continue this charade of “Ireland changing its position”? Ask your government why they requested an all UK backstop initially and now rejecting it - a farce cabinet for a start

Oh but let’s all pause. Should Ireland ditch the backstop.... what an extraordinary turn of phrase. The BBC has obviously lost its command of the English language if ‘ditch’ is the best word it can use to dense grade the peace process.

The Backstop is in the “UK” agreement because the British negotiators asked for it.

" is it time for Ireland to change its position" On what planet are you on. Ireland isn't leaving the EU, Ireland didn't create this problem. So if its not possible to leave while protecting NI (maj of NI citizens businesses and farmers support backstop), UK must change position

I'm English and I'm disgusted with this tweet. Why the hell should Ireland change its position? 1) Ireland is the EU, so doesn't deserve singling it out like some agitator 2) We forced this situation on the Irish. We made the mess, we need to own it and fix it. Grow up!
