"We're not the leader of the world any longer." Classicist Mary Beard says Britain isn't "terribly efficient" and we ought to "work out how we're going to be an ordinary country" WATCH: https://bbc.in/2Zkj5B2  #newsnight | @wmarybeard | #Brexitpic.twitter.com/AdHBORQHIH

If ever there's been a country that needs to "decolonize", it's the UK...

Bless her cottons. Nice anecdote. I have one too... my Italian friends are probably more pro Brexit than I am. A lot of Italians are 🤷‍♂️

Especially in the productive North. The Italians I know want Italy out if it’s union with the south and out if the EU.

There are no 'single world leader' countries - it's all about leadership and being inspiring enough to bring others with you. World Politics is about peacefull co-existence and communications, especially to solve the big issues that affects us all.

Note to the bot handler - this bot is decked out in US flags. You’re accidentally using it to pretend to be British!

Look at the countries with a high quality of life - Norway, Canada, Oz, Swiss, Japan. Independent but open countries who don't impose themselves on others. That's a formula I'd be happy with.

That's not what she said. She's just pointing out for a long time we have thought this country led the world, people will come running to us after brexit but we need to realise we aren't that big a deal in the scheme of things & will have to graft more as a result of being alone.

Would this be the Italy with 33% youth unempl' & financial crisis, to go with the 7 state bailouts & insane ec's paid for by EU poor? Or EU fraud/tax ev' of e 1 trill (Barroso's 2013)benefiting rich & corrupt? Or UNICEF rpt Grk poverty? Stick to what you know ! @LeaveMnsLeave

Do actually look at what I said. There was no suggestion at all that Italy was a role model. The point was how people outside the uk perceive our current parliamentary negotiations!!
