Mental health needs more funding but the reasons for the alarmingly increase in mental health issues particularly in young people also needs to be addressed!

Should the question be why are so many people in recent years having mental health problems .

Exactly David! That is the question to ask. Why are 1400 more people accessing mental health services everyday....what is wrong and what is causing it?

The population is growing; it was not a comparison based on ratio but on numbers. Further, TM is actually right in saying MH needs to be tackled in a number of areas, including those outside of the NHS. You need to address the treatment as well as the source to tackle it properly

Yes, MED is right in what they say too. More and more people are opening up about their MH issues which is a good thing, but it does also contribute to more people accessing such services.

I understand that contributes but 1400 a day is still a lot of people that suffered quietly and went unnoticed. I still feel it indicates the causes need to be looked into. Something in our society and lifestyles must be causing this rise too.

Yes, which is precisely what TM was referring to when she said they are investing into "all areas", but sadly some MPs don't understand this. It's all good and well throwing money at the treatment, but that won't tackle the source. TM is completely right in her approach here.

Why do these debates always end in tit for tat. Saying that the Tories have done more for mental health than Labour ever did, seriously! What does that have to do with anything? It’s not a competition. Just start implementing some changes to help with the problem.

Despite issues with mental health services being widely commented on it was only yesterday that the @CareQualityComm published its briefing paper with the headline "Wide variation uncovered in how NHS and local authorities work together when applying the Mental Health Act "

People are seeking help from metal health services for shit that just happens in life. They've been encouraged to do so by the royals, media etc. Shit happens in life. Just get on with it and leave mental health services for the people who really need them.
